What is Deep Tissue Massage Therapy?

Deep Tissue Massage Therapy uses generous warming techniques to go deep into the client's tissue and identify areas where adhesions, scar tissue, and diminished blood flow are creating pain. Specific areas of pain or concern can be the focus of a deep tissue massage, or the entire body can be addressed.

How Does it Work?

Deep Tissue Massage Therapy is the general descriptive term for many clinically therapeutic techniques.

More anatomically specific than Swedish Massage Therapy, Deep Tissue Massage Therapy focuses on relieving dysfunction in specific muscle groups, tendons, ligaments and connective tissue. This type of massage is often integrated with other massage techniques during a massage session.

Using generous warming techniques, therapists go deep into the client's tissue and identify areas where adhesions, scar tissue, and diminished blood flow are creating pain. The muscles must be relaxed for the massage therapist to effectively perform Deep Tissue Massage Therapy, otherwise tight surface muscles will prevent the access to deeper muscle tissues.

By increasing blood flow and breaking up adhesions and fibrous areas of tissue with deep kneading, friction, and pressure, tension and pain are released. This helps with chronic muscular pain and injury rehabilitation. Deep Tissue Massage Therapy also reduces inflammation-related pain caused by arthritis and tendinitis.

Specific areas of pain or concern can be the focus of a deep tissue massage, or the entire body can be addressed.

It is important to give feedback as to the amount of pressure you prefer as your massage therapist is working to make the massage as effective as possible for you.
